Alternative Football Match

Tomasz Domański’s work Alternative Football Match was going to be carried out on the main pitch of the ‘Oławka’ stadium. The artist’s intention was to use talc to draw on the grass a sequence of lines resembling those which can be found on a typical football pitch, which organise the space and enable playing according to commonly-accepted rules. Domański’s lines were supposed to be multiplied and disorganised – subject to the artist’s arbitrary whims. An impression of chaos was to be created that way, or, what is more likely, a feeling of a kind of freedom in the game as well as a possibility of playing many games with different rules on the same field. Unfortunately, it was impossible to carry out this work about the conventionality of game rules. The sowing of grass on the main pitch during the Review made it impossible.
