Capitalism and Schizophrenia
The title of the artwork refers to the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guatarri. Capitalism and Schizophrenia is a philosophical project which assumes that the capitalist way of thinking is connected with the Oedipal order. The neurotic model of subjectivity is perfectly adjusted to the capitalist model of production. An attempt to break this order is the psychotic model, which perceives subjectivity and desire in terms of productivity. Subjectivity and desire become productive bodies. The artist contrasted the title of this work with football fans’ visual setting of a match. The spectacular firing of flares is a demonstration of strength, but also a call to fight. Capitalism and Schizophrenia may be treated as a kind of manifesto, a call to turn towards psychotic subjectivity. The burning flares also herald stopping the game and conflict, which may be interpreted as being fed up with the capitalist order of production.
