In the opening seconds of the Grill video, the viewer sees two rows of plastic table football players participating in an invisible game above a heap of history course books. After a while the image darkens, the heap starts to burn, and the movement of the toys does not resemble a game of football but, more and more, the rhythmical turning of a spit above a fire. Accompanied by an inscription history will repEAT you, Macha’s work reflects upon national antagonisms and their seemingly inseparable connection with historical conflicts. It also appears to be posing a question about the degree to which sport fuels the fire of mutual animosities between nations.
