Loser
Two connected performances referred directly to the Up To You motto. Both of them deemed the phrase thoroughly false – according to the Krasnals, an artist is just a pawn in a machinery of rigid set-ups beyond his or her control (alternatively, he or she might play the role of a well-trained ‘pet’). The first performance, entitled Loser, consisted of a sad march of an artist who accepts his poor condition. As part of the second one, whose title was Winner and which was carried out in the middle of an obsolete sports stand, the artists were trying to give orders to other participants in the Review, who were unaware of being just cogs in other people’s (curators’) games. It is hard to say if the actions were clear to the audience, who had not been acquainted with the description of the work sent to the organisers. Maybe the work’s excessively enigmatic meaning was compensated by the possibility of seeing the famous Krasnals in action.
