Remote Work
This video forms part of a broader series in which the artist examines the nature of work and labour. In this instalment, the act of drawing becomes a stand-in for work itself: the artist commits to filing a single A4 sheet of paper over the course of a standard eight-hour working day. Every second of the process is registered on paper. At the same time, CURA reflects on the phenomenon of the home office. Working mere inches from one’s own bed, in a space tailored to personal needs, once seemed like a perfect solution. The COVID-19 pandemic abruptly made this dream a reality. Yet how does this model truly differ from other forms of employment? First of all, distractions are everywhere. The artist starts work at 9:00 a.m., adhering to conventional office hours, but the domestic setting constantly demands attention – there are too many things to take care of. Nevertheless, despite occasional breaks for personal matters and the absence of external supervision, the task is completed within the timeframe of a full working day.
