Wrocław 2013

A metal object (an untypical bottle rack) represented a continuation of a series of urban sculptures, which Krystian TRUTH Czaplicki had been creating for a number of years. The sculptures, usually situated in public spaces, interpret forms which are often prosaic. This time the object was a linear steel form embedded in the slope of a sizable hill that used to be part of historical fortifications of the city. The site was chosen due to an attractive panoramic view it offered and because of its relatively cosy character, which made it. possible to arrange a quiet meeting at some distance from the bustle of the nearby embankment. The social aspect of the sculpture was emphasised by a several-hour long performance in the form of a two-person picnic, who slowly sipped alcoholic drinks. The characteristic shape of the sculpture – a combination of a triangle in the middle and circular hoops (bottle racks) attached to it – was not devoid of meaning in the context of a nearby historical public toilet, jokingly hinting at the relationship between consuming beverages and using facilities like that.
